  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, stirring frequently.
  2. Cook until it turns a rich, golden brown, continuing to stir.
  3. Add the brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and salt, stirring until smooth.
  4. Bring to a gentle boil, stirring continuously to avoid crystallization.
  5. Remove from heat and mix in the chocolate chips until melted and creamy.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract and pour into a greased 8x8 inch baking dish.
  7. Allow to cool at room temperature, then refrigerate until firm.
  8. Once set, cut into squares.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in crushed nuts or a swirl of peanut butter. It can be served alongside vanilla ice cream or with a sprinkle of sea salt on top.
