Ingredients

For the Marinade
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine (or dry sherry) substitution: dry sherry
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb chicken thighs bone-in thighs can be used for added moisture
  • Green onions for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice wine, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Stir until well mixed.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and ensure they are coated evenly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking tray with foil for easy cleanup and place the marinated chicken on it, pouring any extra marinade over the chicken.
  3. Bake in the oven for about 25-30 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the edges are beautifully caramelized.
  4. For an extra touch of goodness, broil the chicken for an additional 2-3 minutes to get that irresistible glaze.
  5. Once done, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh green onions just before serving.
