Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature butter for smoother blending.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar Additional sugar for rolling, if desired.
  • 1 large egg Can substitute with an egg replacer if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg followed by the vanilla extract, mixing until everything is well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, blending until just combined; do not over-mix.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls and, if desired, roll each ball in granulated sugar for an extra sweet touch.
  7. Place the balls on ungreased cookie sheets, flattening them slightly for even baking.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, until they turn golden; keep a close eye to avoid overbaking.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
