Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute half with whole grain flour for added texture.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast Can substitute with active dry yeast, allowing it to bloom first.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk Use whole milk or any milk alternative.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
For the Cream Cheese Filling
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
For Topping
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
Making the Filling
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
Assembling the Rolls
  1. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle it evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  4. Roll the dough tightly into a log starting from one long edge. Slice the log into 12 equal rolls.
  5. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with additional granulated sugar.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and fragrant. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
