Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
Making the Filling
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
Assembling the Rolls
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough.
- In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle it evenly over the cream cheese layer.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log starting from one long edge. Slice the log into 12 equal rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with additional granulated sugar.
Baking
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and fragrant. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
