- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the rice, French onion soup, and water. Season with salt and pepper, and toss in onions or garlic if you desire.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
- Top the casserole with your shredded cheese.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
