Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 6 pieces croissants, torn into pieces
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) work beautifully
  • 1/4 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage optional, but delicious
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish, if desired

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Layer the torn croissants in a greased baking dish, letting them fill the dish generously.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissants, ensuring that all the pieces soak up the custard.
  4. If adding bacon or sausage, sprinkle it atop, followed by a sprinkle of shredded cheese.
  5. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight, letting those flavors mingle and develop.
  6. The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake the casserole uncovered for 30-35 minutes, until it’s beautifully set and golden on top.
  8. Allow it to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Tip: For a crustier top, broil for the last 1-2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning. Feel free to experiment with different ingredients.
