Baking the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and then generously grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until well combined.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans, spreading it out gently.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to rest in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost them generously with cream cheese frosting.
