Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the dough base.
  • 1 cup warm milk Used to activate the yeast.
  • 1/4 cup melted butter Adds richness to the dough.
  • 1 packet yeast Must be active; use fresh yeast.
  • 1 tsp sugar Feeds the yeast for activation.
  • 1/2 tsp salt Enhances flavor.
Filling Ingredients
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled sausage Feel free to use any favorite protein.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or your choice for filling.
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions Optional but adds flavor.
  • 1 egg for egg wash To achieve a golden finish on rolls.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Once the yeast has frothed, add it to the flour along with the melted butter. Mix until a soft, sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a warm spot to rise, covering with a clean cloth. Let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll the dough out into a rectangular shape. Layer the crumbled sausage, shredded cheese, and green onions on top.
  3. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into thick pieces.
  4. Position the rolls on a baking sheet and brush the tops with a beaten egg.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  6. Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm.

Notes
