Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye) Use a good cut of beef for best results.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) Adds depth of flavor but can be omitted.
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust seasoning as desired.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) Can be substituted with more hoisin sauce.
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
For the Stir-Fry
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil For cooking onions.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Season onions while cooking.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let them sit for 10-15 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté them until they are soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then remove them from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are browned.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour the sauce over the beef and let it simmer until it thickens.
Combine & Serve
  1. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes
