Ingredients
  

For the Turkey Patties
  • 1 pound ground turkey Lean protein, key ingredient.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Skip for dairy-free version.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion Adds flavor and moisture.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For better moisture.
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder Key spice for flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust for heat preference.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg To bind the mixture.
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns Can substitute with corn tortillas.
For Serving
  • 1/2 cup sliced avocado
  • 1/4 cup salsa Spread on buns.
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan to medium-high heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, finely chopped red onion, and olive oil.
  3. Sprinkle in the chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Crack the egg into the mixture and mix well, using your hands or a spoon to ensure everything is evenly combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into four equal patties, ensuring uniform size and thickness for consistent cooking.
Cooking
  1. Place the patties on the preheated grill or grill pan.
  2. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  3. While cooking, toast the whole wheat hamburger buns on the grill or in a separate pan for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Once the patties are grilled to perfection, remove them and set aside.
Assembly
  1. Spread a thin layer of salsa on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  2. Add a turkey burger patty on top of the salsa.
  3. Finish with sliced avocado and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro, then close with the top half of the bun.
  4. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Notes
