Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and add diced onions. Cook until tender and translucent, then season with salt, pepper, and optional spices. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream until smooth. Keep on heat for a couple of minutes to warm through.
Assembly
- Grease a casserole dish and spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom.
- Sprinkle a cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
Baking
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown.
- Remove from oven and add the remaining cheddar cheese on top. Return to oven for another 5 minutes to melt the cheese.
- Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 15-20 minutes to maintain crispiness. Can be frozen if baked first.
